Hello hayfordsomuah:

Thank you for the follow up. I wanted to clarify the absolute best way to get an activation code. The following process will work for anyone that needs an activation code for a Windows phone 7 or 8 regardless of your location.

Please start a live chat session any time of day or night, they are a 24 hour operation. You can start that chat from here. I suggest you select the billing and payment option to ensure you get the option to start a live chat.

Please let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.

Hello pedroatumaka,

Thanks for visiting the Answers forum.

In order to acquire an Activation Code for a Windows Phone 7 or 8 device, you will need to contact our chat support team at http://gethelp.live.com/

Be sure to have the following ready to provide to the support agent: Make and Model of Phone, Mobile Operator/Carrier, and your Phone's IMEI number. (dial *#06# on phone to determine this)

Cheers,

Matthew N.

To receive a Windows Phone 7 activation code, you will need to contact Microsoft Customer Service by phone. (There is no option to receive an activation code online.)

To reach Microsoft Customer Service, Windows Phone 7 customers in the United States can call 1-800-MICROSOFT.

Contact information for Microsoft Customer Service outside the United States can be found by visiting http://www.microsoft.com/worldwide

This KB article ( 2431699) provides background and common Q&A for this issue.

If you have acquired an activation code you should keep your new activation code in a safe place. If you ever need to reset this phone back to factory settings, you’ll see the “Activation Required” screen again and can reuse your new activation code.

I am trying to setup my Windows Phone 7 device with my Windows Live ID and it is asking for a Windows Live Activation Code

I have seen this question http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/windowsphone7/thread/bd93642a-9ed6-4f15-8114-4c8d72816d9b but i cant seem to get through to anyone on the activation department to help me (its all automated and i dont have an install ID)

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi,

Did you try to create a Live ID on a computer browser first ? That way you can confirm it and use it on your Windows Phone 7.

http://www.mobilityminded.com

This is using a pre-existing Live ID that works fine
Can I ask what your location is ? There are some problems at this moment with the Live service and people from Australia cannot log in or are experiencing problems when logging in.

I am in the UK
I don't know if these problems are tied to one region only. I will try to find out more info on this.

I'm having the same issue. Spoke to HTC and they are looking into it as well. I think there are a few people with this issue.

For those who have acquired activation codes I wanted to highlight this section of the article:

You should never share your code with someone else – doing so may prevent your new code from working."
